My client is seeking a ‘hands-on’ Shipping Manager to join their small friendly team of 8 on the outskirts of Basingstoke. They manufacture specialist materials for the model hobby industry and ship products to customers and distributors worldwide.
Role of the Shipping Manager:
- Picking, packing, and preparing consignments (small parcels to pallets) for suppliers and customers in the UK and internationally. Some heavy lifting will be involved.
- Managing hazardous goods shipments (IATA training would be advantage but can be provided).
- Creating shipping documentation – Dangerous Goods Notes, packing lists and labels.
- Complying with packing and labelling requirements for road, sea and air.
- Booking shipments via carrier IT systems and managing carrier relationships.
- Monitoring stock levels and analysing orders for prompt fulfilment.
- Keeping accurate records and ensuring a clean, compliant workspace as required by legislation and insurance.
- Assisting with ordering raw materials and occasional manufacturing support.
- Learning the special conditions surrounding hazardous goods (chemicals, adhesives etc) and labelling requirements in line with legislation.
Requirements for the role of Shipping Manager:
- A high level of attention to detail, and a logical approach to problem solving.
- The ability to be self-managed and get the job done.
- Experience in shipping, packing, or logistics.
- bility to work accurately with paperwork and compliance.
- IT skills (despatch systems, spreadsheets).
- Interest in chemicals, adhesives, or model hobbies (a bonus!).
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally – trade shows, customers, suppliers.
